you will see no performance gains and if its not a recirculating bov then your car will run rich, sometimes back fire, though you wont be doing any major damage. with a vent to atmosphere, you lose the pressure that the turbo has made causing a bit of a lag. when you recirculate it back into the intake, it runs better and keeps the pressure. yes, you can use either or, but ide use a recirculating style one. even better, save the money. the stock one is just fine, able to withstand up to 20 lbs of boost.
I drive an 09 Sti and a few of my friends have subaru’s (WRX – STi) None of us run a BOV, mostly because we havent turned the psi past any ridiculous amounts. Sure the woosh sound is cool, but in the long run you’ll be happier saving the money
Technically it will “work”. You will need to get a specific flange though.
Should you do it? no. As jim said, you are releasing the pressure the turbo just spooled, and without that air the fuel is still injected and thus you will run rich. Running rich can cause a few things-
1. You will foul your spark plugs faster.
2. If you are running cats, those will foul and won’t work as efficiently.
3. You may bog in between shifts
4. You may stall at stop lights (I’ve only seen a few do this) as idle may be rough.
Stick with stock until you’re tuned, and the power necessitates it.
yes if you dont have most of the air recirculating than you will get back fireing and poping give a good look to the aps dual vent bov
